Here are just a few examples of how we have helped some of our clients.
Web Development
Fretless Consulting developed a multi-language, database-driven website for
Triangle Digital,
an ink and laminate manufacturer, that can be modified by the client without needing
to know any HTML or web technologies. The site was created using ASP.NET and an
Access database.
The text on the website is translated into several languages and stored in a database.
When you browse to the website, the correct language is automatically displayed
by your browser based on your browser's preferred language (for example, Spanish). Although parts of the website have
not been translated yet, translations and languages can be added by the client without
having to hire a developer, thereby saving time and money, and increasing productivity.
To see a
translated example, browse to this page and use the Language menu to switch
between English and Spanish.
Brochure Websites
We also develop simple brochure websites that allow you to have a presence on the
web and show a little about your products and services. Here is an example:
Software Solutions
The Fretless Space Explorer helps you
manage your files and folders. It quickly and easily shows you where your
disk space is being used, and it allows you to free up space by deleting or compressing
files and folders. It also has lots of little goodies to help you compress
and encrypt files and folders, cleanup temporary or unneeded files, uninstall
unused programs, and even help you defragment your hard drives.
This application was developed using C#, a language specially designed by Microsoft
for the .NET Framework. This technology allows much faster development and
results in applications that are more secure and robust with improved performance for
most applications over more traditional application technologies (such as Java and
even C++).

This client had been trying for over two years to get employee time-tracking reports
out of either Timeslips or QuickBooks, neither of which were flexible enough to
provide the desired reports. We were able to generate the reports needed,
and more, within one day.
Rather than trying to force Timeslips
and QuickBooks to generate reports that were beyond their capabilities, we took
a different approach. Instead, we used the reporting capabilities of their
time-tracking software to generate reports that contained the raw data. Then
we linked a Microsoft Access database to the exported data and created dynamic,
easily modified reports. These reports can categorize and subtotal hours worked
and money earned by any and all related data, such as type of work, employee, client,
time period and more.
Here is a snapshot of one of these reports
(using fake data, of course). You can download a
sample Access database (compressed with
WinZip) that contains dynamic versions of these reports, which you can
manipulate in various ways, such as dragging fields or selecting the down-arrows
next to the field names (Date, Timekeeper, Billing Status, etc.) to filter which
data you want to see in the report.
Database Design
This client had been using several large spreadsheets to store the documentation
information for a software development project. These spreadsheets worked
well when there was only a small amount of data and little duplication, but they
had grown to the point that they were very difficult to maintain, and almost impossible
to keep consistent.
We analyzed the spreadsheet data and re-organized it into a database of several
different tables (which are like smaller spreadsheets that eliminate duplicate fields)
and created several data entry forms and functions to create a simple database application
that allows the team to enter, modify, and view a smaller, more consistent collection
of data. This makes it easier to make global changes, insure consistency,
and generate a wider variety of reports, and makes the data accessible in a more
standardized format.
